Survey Monkey Questionnaire

We sent our survey monkey out to those in our primary and secondary target audience so as to fully incorporate their ideas and opinions into our film. Our first question asked them what title they believed best for a crime drama, and Malefaction won by a long shot with 80%, a result we fully expected and were hoping for. It is more interesting than the others as it is an uncommon name and therefore stands out, straight away enticing the audience.
Our second question asked them what name they favoured for a serial killer. In this particular question we also gave them an extra answer box so as to input their own ideas. Although King of Hearts got the most votes, one of our participants suggested Knave of Hearts. Knave is another word that used to be used for "jack", but also translates into "a dishonest or unscrupulous man". Sam and I absolutely loved this idea, so mutually agreed to use it.
Another question we asked what location the audience believed best suitable. A majority voted for a multi-storey car park, but unfortunately Sam and I discussed the logistics of this and came to the conclusion that getting permission would be difficult, and dealing with the public would be a mission. We instead compromised on a normal car park in our nearby town, as it would create the same atmosphere we are aiming for. The lighting that excited us for the multi-storey car park can be created by us through the use of filters and special lighting equipment.
Colour palettes are essential in creating the right mood and atmosphere for a film. Although audience's may not consciously pick up on it, it has a massive impact. Of course audience's may struggle with this question as they would not often analyse films' colour palettes but it is good to take their opinion into consideration as they will naturally associate certain colours with particular genres. With this question our target audience members were allowed to select as many boxes as they wanted, and black and red received the most votes. This was closely followed by blue and white. This was to expected as black connotes darkness and evil, and red, white and blue are closely associated with emergency vehicles- particularly police cars.
Sam and I also felt it important to ask about which narrative they would prefer. This is very important as we need a narrative that our target audience would find gripping and interesting, and our non-linear idea won. We thought this would be the case as it makes a slight change from typical crime dramas, but works well for a short film.
